Purchased this orbifolia even though it had some yellowing and brown around the edges - I trimmed those pieces off. It seems they came back and though the plant looks significantly healthier than when purchased, it’s not looking great or showing new growth. This is one my fave plants and I’ve always had success with them but this one doesn’t seem to be healing. Any advice? (It’s def not overwatered or in direct sunlight). Does it look unhealthy to you or am I being dramatic like a calathea. (Only watered with spring or rainwater).

    Are you watering with tap water? That sometimes can lead to brown tips or edges. I water with treated or distilled water. Yellowing leaves can mean root rot or over watering.

      That’s the mystery - spring water and rain water only. Definitely not overwatered, but sometimes I’m afraid it might be underwater. Though really, I don’t think it’s either one of those things. Exactly why I’m stumped.

    Spring water can have varying mineral content. Maybe try just rainwater for a while? Or rainwater and distilled water?

    Update: there are now three new shoots on the plant and it’s much spring air. I didn’t change much but maybe it just got acclimated. I don’t want to re-trim the dark leaves but it looks like it’s stopping. Should I trim or not?

      I think that's up to you. I was reading up on calatheas recently, and read that while they're picky about their conditions, they're also surprisingly resilient. I guess you could just kinda do what you want and see what happens... It seems like you're being attentive, so if any further care is needed, you'll probably notice before it's too late. Good luck!

      Thanks so much. The new leaf that opened has two brown spots on the tip of it. Almost black. There are two new shoots coming up, which look perfectly fine. I’ll wait a while to do a second trim because I trimmed it when I first got the plant. Calatheas are by far my favorite and though picky they are very rewarding when you treat them well. They do very well in my home. I guess I’m just being picky like a calathea because I’m used to them being so perfect for me.
