Got this pitcher plant three days ago and all the pitchers were fine. Put it in a box with some other of my plants and now they’re starting to turn black. What could be the cause of this?

    I bought mine that way so I am trying to learn as well and hoping someone comments below me and I can read 😜

      I did a quick look up and I was reading something that was saying they’re possibly sensitive to change so that’s why the old pictures are dying, but the new ones will adapt..

      I hope it does better now that it’s warming up here. I had two new leaves and the new pitchers were looking a bit brown. 😭🤦🏻‍♀️

    They are bog plants so they can do this when they need water. I honestly think they are also sensitive to change! I have 2 and they both went a little weird when I got them a few weeks ago. I find the same happens with my 2 sarracenias. If they get too dry they get unhappy. As bog plants, they should be in a couple centimeters of water. Not soaked all the way through just able to stay moist.

      Have you had success with sitting in water? I bought a nepenthes, Venus fly trap, and a hybrid sundew drosera. 2 are sitting in distilled water. Then I assumed my hanging pitcher plant should and google said no 🤷🏻‍♀️ These are my first 3 ever and it’s not going that well lol. I didn’t know the drosera went dormant and I THINK I plucked out the hibernaculum. It’s in a mini makeshift terrarium and I’m just hoping for the best. My venus fly trap was from a little Walmart kit by the register so who knows there. I trimmed it up and put it in distilled water and it doesn’t look that great. My nepenthes I bought on sale and it already had three pictures that were turning brown, but I’m surprised that it’s growing new growth and the tips are brown. It’s in a south facing window and warm/humid. I only give it distilled water and it’s sitting inside of a plastic cup that is a little bit too small so the water gathers at the bottom but it’s not sitting in it. Kind of creating its own humidity I guess. Your plant looks healthy, so I’m just wondering if you have any advice 😂

      I have treated mine all the same way. Low water level, 16 hours light and it’s naturally warm and humid in there. 4 of them came from the same place! My horticulturist friend says this makes all the difference. My box store small Venus is going to crap. I have given it to her to try and bring back but they are usually already very unwell by the time we get to them. I was in the store for the delivery of my healthy ones. I asked to look in the boxes and got them before they had been opened and mistreated further. My sundew is looking like it’s dying or going dormant! Oh dear I plucked mine too.

    The pitchers aren't bog plants. They like to be damp but not sitting in water
