Zan~ Anxious PlanterThere really isn’t a specific measurement for the water as long as it’s distilled, reverse osmosis and or rain water fill about 1/3 of your pots hight in water let the dish go dry for a day or two in between watering this helps prevent root rot

DanishGrammaI concur 😁 but I don’t ever let the water dry out because if the soil dries out it will die 😭 But I do let the tray dry out with the nepenthes and pings

If you let dry out for a day or two it helps let the plant prevent root rot it’s not necessary but constant water logging can cause root rot in this plant so it’s just a preventative not necessary I’ve kept an plant alive with that method for almost a year!

Also may depend on what media it’s in as well I haven’t gotten a hand on some carnivorous mix yet so it’s still in it’s nursery soil/ mix

ClaudiaNo they should never be dry! Moist at all times but not wet! If you pinch the soil there shouldn’t be water dripping. The method you’re using will work for a while until it just doesn’t and the plant will go into rapid decline. Rot should not happen with proper drainage (1:1 perlite and peat moss) with half an inch to an inch of perlite at the bottom of the plastic or glass planter from what I gather

I like using peat moss and perlite and I put long sphagnum moss on the bottom and top. It works great for keeping the roots moist but not soggy. When I water them I clean the tray and flood them with distilled a few times to flush the roots.

Well according to a vft website it states to refill the dish when dried “Place the plant pot in a tray and fill up the tray with 1-2 inches of water. Let the plant consume the water and refill as soon as the tray dries out.” Idk tho but that method has been fine for me 🤷🏼♂️

I’m going to be researching this again cause now I’m curious if they’re saying something else now. I know the owner of the flytrap store has his in big clay pots without a tray somehow but he’s the only one I’ve seen do that. I got the really tall pots that are used by the winner of all the shows and her flytraps are beautiful 🤩 They do have very long roots!
