Howdy Folks. Bought my first Venus 2 months ago and repotted it in a 6” pot from a 2” pot in Sphagnum and sand mix. Hope that was ok to do. It’s 6 inches from tip to tip looking like it has a couple of new sprouts with one of them just about ready to open. Question is, why do some of the fangs turn black? I’ve sniped 2 of them off since I got it. 1 of them was before I took this picture.
Each trap will only close 3-4 times then they’ll die off. You’ll also want it to be sitting IN a dish of filtered water and give as much sunlight as possible

hi! as J1ll said, the traps can only close a few times before they die and turn black. older leaves will also die off to make room and maximize energy for the new growth! terracotta pots arent great, as they can leech minerals into the water - plastic nursery pots are best. using rain, distilled or RO water is also very imporant, as any kind of water containing chemicals, nutrients or minerals can cause the plant to burn. give this bad boy as much light as possible! the inside of the traps should be red, and the leaves should be more upright and perky. hardy carnivorous plants (which includes VFTs) can go outside and survive brief frosts, and leaving it outside allows it to catch all the bugs and sun rays it needs. sarracenia northwest (website) has some great info and more details on temperature/zones, highly recommend checking them out!! hope this helps, good luck!
