Hi! So my sundews are pretty upset. Theyā€™ve lost their dew :( hereā€™s whatā€™s goin on. Iā€™ve had them for a few months now Iā€™ve tried different lighting but not too rapidly. Iā€™ve tried increasing watering frequency and always keeping the tray full Iā€™m keeping them in sunlight now because being a bit away from the sun didnā€™t help much and seemed to make it worse. I also used to mist them but I stopped because I didnā€™t want to over humidify them since itā€™s already very humid in my bathroom . Iā€™ve tried not touching them besides keeping them as they are in the window sill and giving them water whenever needed but they keep browning. I think Iā€™m missing some thing. Is there anything else Iā€™m doing wrong? Maybe they need a repot? A dome? Let me know , thanks! (Also, they came with flowers cut for some reason . Iā€™m sad)

    Are you using distilled water? They canā€™t handle the minerals in tap water.

    What is the planting medium? They need to be in sphagnum moss mixed with perlite so they get plenty of moisture and oxygen.

      Itā€™s in the planting medium it came in which is a carnivorous mix which should be fine for it

      Gotcha, yep, probably finešŸ˜Š I forgot there is a separate gritty mix you can also use. It looked like regular potting soil at first. Iā€™m heading out to the pool with my kids. Iā€™ll keep thinking and check back with you later if I think of something. Hopefully lots of people will have helped you by then.šŸ˜Š

    I do not have the exact same varieties as you so keep in mind they might need something a little different. I have a cape sundew that is very happy so Iā€™ll tell you what I do for it in case you can use it to pinpoint something we are doing differently. I have had it a little over a year now in case that helps. Keep in mind, I have several varieties of pinguiculas that are all supposed to be normal humidity and need the same things. Even so a couple varieties are struggling even though they have the exact same care. So even though my sundew might appear to need similar care, it might need something slightly different than yours. Even so, hopefully this will help.šŸ˜Š I have mine in a terracotta pot inside a soup bowl type mug. There is a layer of rocks on the bottom to allow the water to flow in and out of the drainage holes better. I keep it full of distilled water all the time. My understanding is that drosera wants to be in water all the time, pinguicula like to be very wet but dry out sometimes, and pitcher plants like to stay mostly dry and just water after being dry for a day. I started out with all my carnivorous plants in a bog set up, but over time, I found that wasnā€™t what they all needed. The pinguiculas are the newest, only got them a few months ago. I read that letting them dry out sometimes is good for them and have found that to be true. Right now, I am watering them whenever I see the moss is dry, but not keeping them in a dish of water. That seems to be making them happier. I have kept my cape sundew in a bog set up the whole time and it loves it! The only problem I have ran into with it is lighting. It looses its sticky and red coloring when not under enough light. I currently have it under a 6500K grow light and it loves it! Itā€™s about 3 inches above the plant. I donā€™t mist it because that dilutes the stcky on the leaves. Iā€™m guessing yours just needs more light and water. I find they almost want to be drowning.šŸ˜„ Also, no fertilizer.
