Can someone let me know why my plants are turning brown and black? It is too much water? Too little? Too much sun? Not enough? I water them when I notice the soil is dry and I manually feed them as well when I catch bugs in my house. Even the baby pitchers are turning brown. I don’t know what to do.
I’m newer to keeping carnivorous plants but here’s what I’ve found. 1. Use only distilled water 2. Keep the soil moist especially for fly traps since they are bog plants. 3. For the fly traps they don’t need you to feed them. They just need lots of sun, the bugs they catch are just for fertilizer but not for “food”. 4. Instead of soil that has nutrients they should be potted in perlite and moss for the flytraps and orchid bark or moss for the pitcher plant. (Depending on the type) 5. The fly traps (unsure on the pitchers because this is my first winter with them) need to have a dormant phase. They’ll look like they’re dying but if you do it right, after a couple months they come right back. Again I’m new, but this is what has worked for me especially with my flytraps. Good luck!

좋아요 1개 Very possible especially if the temp has dropped where you’re keeping them. I keep my plant room warm year round so about this time I place them outside and let the temps fall naturally.

Your plants seem like they’re doing fine (a little more light would help) but older traps typically brown and die off as the plant grows. They will want dormancy in these coming months but probably not yet.
