Hi! I’m getting really interested in carnivorous plants but have never owned one. Has anyone here ever heard of bog bowls? Apparently they’re perfect for carnivorous plants. Does anyone have any advice on how to make one?

    They are perfect for carnivorous plants that prefer bog conditions. Not all of them do and I have seen many nepenthes fail when planted into bog substrate and kept with things like sarracenia, sundews, and flytraps. The important thing to remember is that most bog carnivores require a dormancy period, as in for a few months of the year your plants will neee a rest period and you’ll have to plan for that and make sure you’re giving them the right conditions during those times if growing indoors. All carnivores require a serious amount of light whether that be full sun or full spectrum grow lights, one of the most common problems I see with beginners and carnivorous plants is light deficiency. That all being said carnivorous plants are a super rewarding and interesting part of plant husbandry and things like sundews can easily be grown on an easy or south facing windowsill. They’re beginner friendly and easy to troubleshoot.
