Just got this cutie today! First time having a Venus fly trap and just curious what’s the best possible way to care for them? Should I repot him or wait a little? And if so what size pot and any certain pot? I was also planning on keeping him in my room unless a better spot is recommended! Please please help a girly out! Would love to hear any recommendations!
I set mine in a saucer of filtered water right away. They like a sunny spot but transition to full sun slowly. I did eventually remove mine from the pot because I noticed it was in a mesh pod and I hate those things and have noticed them on so many plants so I always carefully remove them with a chopstick. I placed it back into the original container though until the roots are more established. The traps close 3-4 times each so try not to set them. They turn black once spent and you can trim them off. They will go dormant in the winter but if kept around 30-40 throughout the winter they will grow back in the spring. Their original climate is North Carolina. It’s dry by the end of the day but I try to keep water in the tray.

0 likes Also the soil. Can u do all purpose potting mix or does it have to be carnivorous potting mix!
0 likes Not basic potting soil this would have too many fertilizers ect. Peat or coir is recommended.

plant it in half peat and half perlite with no fertilizer in it
