Just got a pitcher plant today any tips I’ve know how to take care of normal fly traps is there anything different or what?

    They are a little different from fly traps. They can eat a lot more though they still need distilled water too.

    You can use rainwater — more cost effective than distilled. I use well water with no problems. These need poor soil conditions like others, mine does best in sphagnum moss which I keep moist at all times

      I also use sphagnum moss, but mine is mixed with perlite about 50/50. Also, they are not bog plants so they don’t need the tray of water. Just water them when the moss is dry. If I remember right, they grow on the side of trees (or something like that) so not sitting in water like VFT. I also second the rain water if you get enough. I live in Texas so it’s rare to get rain enough to help this time of year.🤪

      Correct! This variety of pitcher plant is an epiphyte. I don’t let the moss dry out

    They need a lot of light. About 10 hours a day 4 of them being direct light. I would highly suggest getting a grow light, some can do okay in a windowsill so long as it gets full light. Do not treat it like a bog plant (VFTs) like others have said here it’s epiphytic. It’s important to meet the light and low TDS water requirements for them to thrive. Humidity helps but they can adapt to as low as 30% (average home) if you have any questions I’m always available to help with nepenthes care here or on IG @nepenthomancer. Don’t worry about feeding, it will take care of that if you keep the water and light correct. I do think the substrate looks a bit close or broken down so I would replace it with 50% long fiber spagnum and 50% perlite as said earlier. The roots will be spindly and black, don’t worry they’re not rotted that’s just what they look like. They can actually rot though if kept too wet so make sure that it stays moist but is not sitting in water/staying soaked. Remember not to use any products with fertilizer or fertilize them ever.       Totally agree! Mine was in the window sill over winter and struggled. It put out the tiniest leaf.😅 I moved it to a 6500K grow light for 12 hours until I could move it outside and it loved it!! 2-3 inches above the leaves and it put out huge leaves and pitchers. The huge pitchers were also due to it getting older and taking care of a bug problem, but the light does make a huge difference!

    Make sure it has light in the 50-200ppfd range and don’t keep the soil super moist
