Brought my little baby Venus in from outside and while getting her adjusted to the grow light setup I noticed a little piece of cloth. Ended up taking her out of the soil and realized there is a wrapping on the root ball! When I initially repotted it, I thought it was part of the soil. I bet it feels so much better!
I’ve found that same cloth on most of my carnivorous plants root balls, some even died before they had a chance because the cloth suffocated the roots and it all was rotten when we got them. I’ve even found those on some 10” potted alocasias, same size cloth, just wrapped way too tight around the corm instead of the root ball. I’m sure they’re convenient as a mass production nursery, but they can be a death sentence. I wish they would stop using them and go with something that expands and degrades over time like seed sponges or something else.

You're vft need more light they are growing very long and looking for sunlight.
1 likeI’ve been losing my mind trying to find the perfect spot for her. She kept getting scorched. I read today that the sun is scorching bc the little saucer was running dry too quickly and not getting moisture to the leaves. Now that I know it isn’t the heat, I nixed the saucer and put her in a 1.5 inch water bath and left her out. I was excited to see that it worked really well. No scorch, and the little formed trap actually opened up with a blush pink inside! I got over the fear factor and think she’ll thrive now!
