Got 4 new carnivorous friends the other day: 2 drosera, 1 ping, and 1 nepenthes. This is my first nepenthes though. Can I keep it in the same carnivorous mix I made for my other plants (peat, perlite, and sand)? The shop guy said I shouldn’t, but didn’t really tell me what to keep it in. It is in sphagnum and maybe something else right now, and I see Planta says carnivorous mix OR sphagnum, but wanted some opinions. Should I mix in a little sphagnum to my mix, or maybe make a layer of sphagnum on top? Oh, also, should it have a water basin with a wick like I give the others? Thank you! PS: I know the nepenthes doesn’t look great. The guy gave it to me for $15 because he said he sunburnt it a little. PPS: the plants are 1: Nepenthes rafflesiana white x caffelsiana 2: Drosera aliciae 3: Drosera intermedia 4: Pinguicula emarginata x moctezuma

    I’ve got my pitcher plants, sundews, and pings in sphagnum moss. The sundews and pings should be placed tray of distilled water. The pitcher plant should be watered when the top has dried slightly but not completely. I water one a week on the nursery’s suggestion and my plants are doing great. The pitchers usually like humidity so I would suggest spraying them with distilled water if you have low humidity. If the nepenthes are in low humidity it may not produce pitchers.

    You might have two nepenthes growing there. You might take a look when you try to repot it. I would also suggest plastic pots for all these.

      They’re beautiful and in my area it’s so hard to find carnivorous plants without having to have them shipped😭

    Rafflesiana is lowland nepenthes. It needs to be kept very warm and very humid unlike the rest of the carnivores you got. Please do not keep it in peat. The absolute easiest and best substrat would be 50/50 long fiber spagnum and perlite. I also add a handful of very well rinsed coco chips or orchid bark. You can use a seedling mat if you’re not able to keep high enough daytime temps for the Raff (they want 85f not really hotter and won’t grow if kept much cooler) and never going under 65f.       Hi. Thank you for the great info. I know you mentioned rafflesiana specifically, but it says mine is a hybrid, so I tried to look up caffelsiana as well, but I don’t see that mentioned anywhere on the web. Is the tag wrong then? Or did he just misspell something when he printed the tag?

    There is also seems to be a basal on the Raff. I would leave it for now (it’s a sign the plant has been under a lot of stress) but in the future you can cut it off and root it in the same media (spag/perlite)
