so my venus flytrap (left) wasn't doing very well it produced another baby (right) and now they're both flowering?!?! like do i just cut the stem off because i've been hearing the flower stalk takes a lot of its energy. also is it going to produce seeds if i cut off the stalks and keep them?
Yes, they do take a lot of energy. However if you want seeds you'll need to let it flower, then you pollinate it (these can self pollinate, ie. Use the plants pollen to pollinate it, vs cross pollinating, using a different plant). After the flower dies, there should be a pod where it was, if you were successful in pollinating, and that will have the tiny seeds in. The other way to produce more plants would be cutting up the flower stalk and planting the pieces.
0 Likes they are lowkey in rehab because they were fighting for their lives in my dorm so i brought them home where they could have their natural humidity outside. i want their energy to be focused on recovering and growing more healthy traps. for the second method of producing more plants do i cut off the flower stalks can i just plant them after cutting them or do they need to be pollinated.
0 Likes If its winter where you are, they should have been going dormant.. ie dying back foliage, that's normal. No, it doesn't need to flower if you just want to prop the flower stem. There's some youtube videos on propping via the flower stem if you want visuals too.
