Got my first carnivorous plant today and I love him! Freshly unboxed and looking gorgeous already! Any tips very much welcome ☺️ xx

    Aw cool!! I haven’t grown one myself (yet), so I don’t have any tips. But I wanted to say they’re so cute for a carnivore 🤭 I saw some teeny tiny ones this past week at a native species garden tour. They were so small, my iPhone wouldn’t focus on them to take a picture lol. I had to have someone with a better camera send me their pic 😂

    These are great beginner carnivorous plants! Water only with distilled or rain water. Keep it in standing water. They do not want to dry out. If you would like to feed it, use rehydrated blood worms. Like what you’d get for fish. You want pure blood worms and no fillers. Only feed every 3 to 4 weeks. Looks like your light is just fine. Mine is in a west facing window and has a small grow light, but I don’t think it really needs it. Unlike Venus fly traps, these are okay to let them flower. They are self pollinating and you’ll want to collect the seeds after they get brown and crispy. I will warn you that these seeds are extremely tiny and will end up in other pots possibly so I just want you to know. That’s all I can think of at the moment. Sorry for being a little scatter brained. Hope you love your new plant!

      Thank you so much!! I have a little dish outside ready to catch rain water and a jar to store it in! He’s in a west window too and the sun towards the end of the day is glorious! I do have a grow light I don’t use so can whip it out if I feel it needs it. I’m so happy with him!! Can’t wait to see him catch some pesky gnats! Haha xx

      They are amazing at catching gnats! Once you get comfortable with sundews, you might check out some piguiculas. The care is nearly identical and I love the colors you can get with the sun stressing. They’re also amazing gnat catchers.

      Additionally, a feeding method I prefer is a liquid mix of some maxsea 16-16-16 plant food mixed in a gallon of distilled water which I find much easier than bloodworms, and it will last you much longer as well! I feed my plants with a spray or two every two weeks. Just make sure you look up the right stuff, if you have any questions you can always look at california carnivore’s website.
