I fed one of my flytraps a mealworm about a week ago before I got better food for them. It’s starting to rot from where the mealworm was cut it looks like. I did let the worm soak in distilled water before feeding it to the trap. What’s the issue here?
I fed another trap a mealworm a week prior to this one and it hasn’t rotted or anything yet. Though it has been quite a while and the trap has yet to reopen

Did the trap get a good seal? If any part of the worm was outside of the trap when it closed it may not have sealed perfectly. If that’s the case it can leak digestive fluid which can rot the trap. I learned that in a video on YouTube but I can’t remember who it was by.

Anna is correct i think that is the issue it looks like if might have been outside slightly. Just make sure all it’s food is fitted in its trap and no bits are sticking out when feeding.
0 Me gustaHad another one recently. Fed it a live bug. The trap was for sure closed completely. It’s starting to show signs of Rot from where the head of the bug is located.
What bug was it? Some bugs can cause rot by biting and some have internal fluids that are bad for it. It clearly is showing signs that it has to do with the bug and it hasn’t eaten too many times as that would look different. It’s strange for sure. Sometime despite fitting in the trap it’s too wide and stretches the trap that could be the case as well.
