hi everyone! first time plant mom here. i just got a Venus Fly Trap, im trying to figure out the best way to take care of it. I live in an apartment with a screened in balcony and honestly don’t see too many bugs. I live in Florida so it gets pretty hot on the balcony. any tips for me? i think she might be dying & i really wanna save her 🥲
briiiight light, poor soil quality, set it in a dish of distilled or rainwater so it stays moist, no fertilizer

0개 좋아요It’ll depend on the intensity of light in the windowsill, and if it does survive, it likely won’t thrive. Flytraps and similar carnivores need extremely bright light, as they receive little to no shade in their natural habitat. If you can’t get it outside (which I totally understand isn’t possible for everyone!) I would consider a grow light. If you catch the carnivore bug (pun totally intended and totally talking about myself here), carnivores like sundews (Drosera) and butterworts (Pinguicula) do very well on sunny windowsills!

Basic care is water will distilled or rain water, and crazy bright light. like if you’re worried the light might burn your plant then you’re doing it right😆😆. For watering I highly recommend the bottom watering method (setting your plant in a shallow dish of water 24/7) to maintain constant moisture. If you are worried your porch isnt enough direct light, you can add a grow light along with the natural light. Hot on your balcony is good, but if it doesnt get below a certain temperature in the winter the plant may not enter dormancy, which is essential for long-term survival. Most people remedy this by putting their flytrap in the fridge during the winter months.
