I am having so much trouble taking care ofy Venus fly trap! What do I do?

    id need more info on what ur doing to be able to be specific, but typically they need a lot of light, humidity, and watering them with rainwater or distilled water.

    sarracenia northwest has tons of good info (under "plant care" tab) on carnivorous plants, highly recommend checking them out :) here are some basics tho: these guys need a lot more sun than people think - full sun, at LEAST 6 hrs a day. i have mine outside right now, as they go dormant, and can tolerate cold much better than people expect. as Macie said, rainwater, RO or distilled water are a need if you have hard tap. these guys grow in bogs and need water with ppm below 50). and lastly, only feed live insects if you keep it inside during the summer, and try to avoid triggering the traps if you aren't feeding.

      Thank you so much! I did not know they needed that much sunlight. But I don't know where I can get live bugs

      any pet supply store (like pet co) should have them for reptiles! if you dont have any place like that nearby, they should be available somewhere online.

    Mine is in a nursery pot inside in a little dish that always has some distilled water in it so that the soil in the nursery pot can constantly be sucking up water, that trick completely revived it after it was in rough shape when I first got it. They live in bogs in nature so they loooove to be wet all the time. I keep mine right in a south (slightly south east) facing window so it gets plenty of sun throughout the day and some direct sun in the morning. I’d say bottom line, make sure the soil is constantly moist with either distilled, reverse osmosis, or rain water, never tap water because they are super sensitive to minerals (also never fertilize it!). And keep it in a super bright spot. You got this!!!

    I have mine in a glass dome like vase. It is thriving!! It’s even got a bloom. I’ve killled every other Venus fly trap, DISTILLED water is key and the vase (kinda like a terrarium vase)I put it in has seemed to really help. If it’s indoor I would recommend that.

      What would happen if I did not use distilled water? And can I make it at home?

      if you dont use distilled, the leaves will burn and crisp, eventually killing your plant. you can totally make a terrarium at home! Plants with Krystal on youtube has some videos of her making terrariums and "bog bowls" with carnivorous plants if you want a direction to head in or some inspiration :)
