Any advice on my Pitcher? Almost all his pitchers died or shriveled up. The rest STARTED to shrivel. I don’t know what to do. Should I repot him? Move him? Water more/less? Like I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Regular potting soil, I don’t have a ton of variety in soil types 😅

nepenthomancerThis is a big problem. It simply will not survive in potting soil. Longfiber Sphagnum with pearlite 50/50 is the safest bet for most set ups.

Amazon has long fiber spagnum available for various prices just rehydrate and mix with pearlite

I got him a little longer than 10 days. Probably closer to 2-2 and a half weeks.

Aww, congrats! I have an alta too and I love it!❤️ Ok, tips! 😊 When I first got mine, I put it in sphagnum moss in a terracotta pot and sat it in a dish of water like my Sundew. It did not like that! I quickly realized it was not a bog plant like some other carnivorous plants! I have kept it in a terracotta pot in sphagnum moss on my windowsill (no under pot) for a year now and it’s very happy! Mine is much smaller than yours so it fits on the windowsill with the three basils it grew. I’m guessing it would pretty happy in front of your window, but probably needs to be in sphagnum moss. Also, they like their roots to dry out a bit between waterings. So maybe water it until the water comes out the drain holes, then don’t water it until the top of the sphagnum moss looks a little dry. Oh, and it needs to be watered with mineral free water, like distilled water. It doesn’t need a ton of humidity, but I do mist it with a fine mister once a day. With that said, the pitchers may not mean anything. They kill off their older pitchers and absorb the nutrients from them after a while. Then they grow new ones on newer leaves. Don’t cut them off until they are fully shriveled. When you do, cut the “cord” at the end of the leaf, so as to leave the leaf to photosynthesize. It also kills off pitchers when the basil plants are growing new roots. One of mine had a nice big pitcher so I hated to separate it from the plant, but I had to do it sometime! So I feel your pain!❤️

Also be careful when repotting as their roots are brittle and small. There are some great repotting pitcher plants videos on YouTube. You sort of wrap their roots with wet moss and then stuff more moss in the pot around them.

Wait is it outside? What zone or state are you in? I had mine outside in a harsh afternoon full sun area under the partial shade of a tree in Texas in 80-90 weather. But I moved it outside slowly to acclimate it and was probably misting it twice a day. I’m wondering if it is too hot or dry for it there also.🤔

I’m in zone 9b he’s outside full time and his leaves seem to like it. He’s never in direct sunlight but I’m gonna be getting spahgnum moss soon and I’ll transfer him into a terracotta pot. Is it okay to keep hanging him? Or after I pot him should I put him on a stand or something?? Thank you so much for the help you’ve given so far!!

You are very welcome!🥰 I don’t know for sure about the hanging but I don’t see why not! I think the terracota would just help it not stay too wet but also provide more air, just like the sphagnum moss will. I wish you well!❤️

Actually now that I think about it, yes, I have seen pitcher plants hanging at big carnivorous plant stores I watch on YouTube. So hanging should be just fine!

They should not be kept in terracotta. They will not pitcher well without some direct sunlight and at least over 40% humidity.

I can tell that it’s not getting enough light, but your main problem is definitely the potting soil. They should be kept evenly moist but not sitting in water, at at least 40% humidity, and with at least 4-6hrs direct sunlight a day to pitcher well.
