This is my poor little nepenthe I acquired on EBay last spring. It came with 2 pitchers and one is still half alive. It is starting to get better sunlight in a SE window and I see the tiny bend it makes when forming a new pitcher. I’m sure it needs pruning but it’s hard to find info on how. I know it’s time to change out the sphagnum moss but I really want to cut the dead leaves off or chop it in half and start over. Any suggestions, advice or wisdom would be greatly appreciated 😁

I am new to the pitcher plant as well but I’ve been doing some reading and I’ve seen that it needs bugs to stay alive and if the pitcher isn’t feeding the plant like the one on the right cut it off but the one on the left you can keep cause it still holds water and bugs.

I also read that they like air movement in between their branches/leaves. I also found this video really helpful it’s by greenthumbs garden on YouTube Pruning Nepenthes Pitcher Plant | Nepenthes Pitcher Plant Care

Watch windowsill nepenthes on YouTube, Rémi is excellent at growing in windowsill. Only other info there I would trust is sarracenia northwest, California carnivores, and RedLeaf exotics.

It does not need to be pruned. It needs high light and high humidity to pitcher. Do not worry about manually feeding it. Only remove the pitcher when it is entirely brown and then remove to the leaf but leave the leaf. Make sure the substrate is kept consistently moist and is fertilizer free spagnum/pearlite. Please contact me at nepenthomancer on ig if you have anymore questions I do nepenthes health consultations for free and rescue.

From what I can see it desperately needs light. Humidity should be no lower than 50 but if you keep the substrate moist than you can swing it so long as it’s getting 4 hour direct sunlight 10hrs indirect about. Year round.
