How do I prepare my new Venus Flytrap for dormancy? And then care for it throughout dormancy? I want to give it the best chance of surviving.

bring it outside is the easiest way to do so, if it’s too cold for that, you can put it in a garage or look up fridge dormancy. make sure it doesn’t dry out, and while it can tolerate chill, make sure any frost doesn’t kill it

It depends where you live. I am in Southern California for example so we do not experience winter. I wrap the roots in wet sphagnum moss, put them in a Ziploc bag, and put them in the fridge. I checked them very often to make sure they aren't growing any mold. They do very well this way because they maintain moisture but the refrigerator is above freezing temperature. They don't require light when they are dormant.
