Howdy! I just got a Venus fly trap, and I’m very excited about it! Although I’m a bit nervous because my last one didn’t go so well… but I’m optimistic about this one! It does have some black traps/closed ones. Do I cut those off or am I supposed to leave them? Am I supposed to repot it/does anyone have soil recommendations?

    They are native to South Carolina. They like sand and peat for soil and they do go dormant for the winter. Just let the trap dry up before removing them. California Carnivores has a good book and YouTube channel. Very nice plant 😊

    How is the inside of you Venus fly trap pink/red ? Mine is green

      I’ve heard that direct sunlight gives them that color and it’s an indication of a happy plant I just moved mine to direct sunlight but no noticeable change so far

      This depends on the species of flytrap! There are a lot of varieties that can have red/purple on different parts of the plant.

    Only cut off black traps if the whole leaf is black if you do cut down to the base repotting would help but it is best to repot during dormancy which is coming soon!
