So I’ve had my fly trap since August and it’s been growing and has been ok with no issues! The other day I noticed a little fly around the plant and I sat and watched for a while but the fly actually walked through the trap, it didn’t close but when it flew off it then closed - a very slow reaction, this happened a couple of times! Am I missing something? Does anyone else’s do this?

When an insect walks over the trap, it needs to touch a trigger hair 3 times. The first one to let the trap know there’s food, the second to close the trap, the third to keep the trap closed and produce digestive liquid. Only feed insects that are smelled than the trap or else it will get mould and kill that trap

It’s going dormant! Don’t worry, it will awaken around mid spring.

I have a Venus fly trap as well, I’m pretty sure it only catches bigger prey which sit there for longer, as small flies can escape through the teeth even when closed, hope this helped x

Make sure the prey is big but not big enough where a limb is exposed
