Sorry I have been posting a lot but I need to know I just got this Venus Flytrap at the store should I take it out of this plastic case? One more thing should I feed it? I don’t have many flies in the house that it could chow down on and if I am supposed to feed it what should I feed? Ants, bugs?

You can also buy live meal worms you can keep them in a fridge and take them out when you feed them that way you wont need to keep tickling the hairs

Just to clear up a common myth, Carnivorous plants do not NEED to be fed bugs. They do need sunlight like any other plant, and this is its food/energy. Think of bugs like an added bonus fertilizer.

Right, from time to time, and as you said, in order to thrive, not to survive. That was my general understanding from watching several long docu-videos from carnivorous growers. The growers had a massive farm and stated the bug feeding was mostly a misunderstood as necessary, when in fact they explained it more as an added bonus and to think of it like fertilizing. Check out the video i attach in photo. I love california carnivores! They are great, i’ve learned a lot from them too. I’m sure the truth is somewhere in the middle as it usually is when comparing sources for info! Lol. 😜 I think new carnivorous parents may be approaching feeding bugs as if the plant will die unless they do this., which is not true.
