Hi all! This is my first pitcher plant, and overall I think it’s doing pretty well. Nice green growth, new tendrils, seems happy. It had pitchers on it when I got it and they have since dried up. I have all these nice looking tendrils, but none of them seem to be developing into pitchers. I noticed a little while ago that some new leaves were growing near the base and now one of them has a pitcher. Does this mean the other tendrils are not going to turn into pitchers? What can I do to encourage this? It’s in a window and also has supplemental light, so I don’t think it’s a light issue. It’s potted in carnivorous soil with some sphagnum moss mixed in. Any help is appreciated 🙂

    Those new leaves near the base are called a basal shoot - similar to a pup or plantlet, but it remains attached to the mother plant. You can leave it to keep growing or cut it off and try to root it in another vessel if you wish. The last photo looks like most of the mother plant petioles (flat part that looks like a leaf) have tiny pitchers on the end. They will eventually grow into full size pitchers but it can take time! You can use fertilizer to encourage growth, for your plant i would recommend extra-diluted Maxsea sprayed on the foliage (avoid spraying fertilizer on the substrate). Congrats on the new pitcher :)

      Forgot to add, i have also seen it recommended to completely chop the mother plant's stem at the base so that the entire root system focuses on growing the basal shoot. But i haven't tried this myself!
