In order to keep me from going crazy over watering plants, I have tried watering spikes, stakes, glass globes, and these refillable plastic globes by Domenzi; the ones by Domenzi, are, by far, my favorite! My question to all of you out there who use these self watering devices, have you checked to see HOW WET THE SOIL REMAINS? I’m using these globes for plants that are tropical, or those that Planta says have medium moisture needs; but, what is moist? Using a hydrometer, I’m finding water levels extremely high, sometimes in the upper 50s and 60s%s. I’m concerned about root rot, with moisture levels that stay this high. I know many of you use these self watering devices; do you check the levels of soil moisture, and have you noticed any problems with plants being too wet, and suffering the consequences of such? CALL ME NERVOUS about using these self watering globes! TIA for your responses, 😬💚🪴!

Here we have my Sedum🌱 If you flick through the photos on the attached plant you’ll see she hasn’t really had any new growth since I got her about 3 months ago… Recently however I noticed this, new growth! But coming from the bottom where leaves are already formed instead of growing new leaves at the top? Is this normal? Either way, new growth is new growth, so I can’t complain🤣🥹
What is the best fertilizer for a moon cactus? i’ve seen npk 10-10-10 or 20-20-20 but are there any trusted brands?
Hi there! I am a Newby to plants and trying to learn how not to kill some that have a reputation for being “easy.” I bought a luscious Boston Fern from my local Lowe’s over the summer, and it started to look not right after a bit. It was losing a lot of its green, with exposed woody bare stalks. After some investigation I figured it was extremely “root-bound” and proceeded to separate it into 2 pots. It was kinda difficult as the plant was so big and the root ball so dense, but today I decided to just snip all the long strands that were bare at the base. As you can see from the photo of the pruned plant it is getting some new growth- but this is only half of the original plant (in the original pot, imagine how locked-in the whole root ball was!) and it still looks pretty dense in the new pot. Do you think I need to separate it further? Anyone with experience in Boston Ferns? Thank you:)
…and this one? Name that plant. LOL
What is this plant?
My hubby bought me a few plants today! I am so excited! Any advice?
My first Hoya. Any tips for this new Hoya planty I picked up at Home Depot? I’ve sprayed it down with insecticidal soap, it was bone dry so i saturated it. I plan to repot it in Molly’s mix once it’s acclimated. All suggestions and tips are appreciated! 💚
What type of perlite do you use? I have just been buying the bags from the garden center with the small perlite. I have read that chunky perlite is better. Any opinions?
always finding some different kinds of plants at lowe’s 🤗 i never heard of a cobra monstera before today
I wanted to show off her off So many babies 😢..I probably need to repot in a much bigger pot! Do you guys recommend cutting the everything off the mother plant and repotting or should I keep everything together and just get larger pot and soil?
Looking for all the Dragon Trail Philo parents. How do you have them potted? I’ve been bouncing around with ideas on how to repot. Do you have them climbing, crawling, hanging? Shes growing fast and I’m looking for a better living situation for her sooner rather than later. Thank you!
Update: Had planted this yesterday, it’s one healthy hugger. It is a Pygmy date palm, phoenix rebelini (sub tropical palm) known to grow in double, triple, and sometimes even quad. Native to South Asia, and it grows a hard like shell Also known as a dwarf palm, slow growing , short curving. I highly suggest getting at least two for your yard or indoors, the aura of an amazing scent with at least 4-5 ft , highly recommend mixed with a lavender plant near. Added to my collection : 6inches a year Highly suggest picking up ph, potassium and magnesium fertilizer is a must,
Thank you to everyone who was so helpful and supportive when I was unsure of my ideas thinking 🤔 moth larvae cacoon? 😂 but it was drenched from the hurricane and not drying out so I moved her to the spot with the best airflow and facing west 🌵 I finally found her sweet spot 😁🥰
I thought I asked this before and yet I cannot find a post from me. The long leafed items, contained in the upside down tomato cage, are my amaryllis bulbs. Last year I left them outside till end of September (at least then maybe longer.). They did not produce any amazing trumpet flowers by the time the Christmas holidays came around. Instead I had Easter Amaryllis. Which holiday the trumpets blast is not important to me. What I’d like to know is: when do people take a perfectly healthy plant, who’s getting sun, and stick it into a dark cool basement while cackling and saying “See you in 8 weeks. If you live through the darkness.” Then with more cackling as you turn out the light. Oh and ignore the baby tiger. If Paris Hilton can have a purse dog then I can have a backpack tiger. (I’m kidding.)
Any tips for leaving plants for a few days? I live in a small apartment in a small apartment complex with one only window. The rule is that we aren’t allowed to have electricity running if we are not home so I’m going to try and get all my plants around the one window with the more larger/more dark tolerant plants in the back and small/more light needing plants up front. Thankfully this is a cooler weekend and my apartment is very well insulated so the goal will be to get the apartment as cold as possible while I am here and then hope that it stays cool while I am gone. Any things else besides a through water for the plants that need it? I will only be gone for four days but this is the time I will be leaving my plants in a situation that isn’t fully ideal so trying to make sure I’ve covered all my bases.
My croton looks like it’s about to shoot out four big leaves 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
my 'pilea plant' has had brownish stems and browning edges on a few leaves for the past week or two....is this caused by overwatering or too much light? any ideas/advice? also mine has a couple sprouts around it so I want to replant all in a larger pot...when is too soon to repot??
HELP is this a good sign or not? What should I do? Just found this mushroom here today but it’s been six days since I checked so could have arrived earlier
does anyone know what kind of plant this is?
