I found a huge bag of various ocean creature shells while thrifting yesterday. Have any of you ever used smashed-up shells as a soil amendment? I didn’t see any real complicated side effects when reading about that subject. Thanks!

I have a ZZ plant that has sit in an east facing window since I got her. Within the past 4 months, the oldest stems’ leaves started to turn yellow and brown. I had to cut the whole stem off down to soil level. I’ve lost 5 stems so far - what could be going on? The pot has two small drainage holes and I water bi-weekly in summer and once a month in winter.
Hello! I have a sea hibiscus that is really sentimental to me. I babied it through Texas’ insanely long 100+ degree summer. Now that we are facing the first cold spell, I’m wondering what temperature to bring it inside at and how to make it work for an extended period of time. We bought one last year in early fall and kept it inside … it very quickly died. I also have a new baby olive tree in a pot (it’s already struggling if I’m being honest) and have the same question.
Good morning sunshine! 🤗 Happy Sunday! Things only a plant parent can understand…When people say that sometimes it’s the little things that bring you so much joy, I think they may have been right! #babyleaves #mindfulmoments 🌱🪴
So I have a peperomia raindrop plant. Months ago the tips of almost all the leaves had been turning brown, then black and then shriveling up each leaf. I emailed Planta the help site, they told me that I needed to flush it with water cause it might have air pockets so it might not be getting enough water and it’s burning. About two months ago. I actually changed out the soil to half of the plant. It is still in a terra-cotta plant. I honestly think I was overwatering it. And now I am being extremely cautious about the watering. I know the leaves won’t fix themselves. The new growth looks slightly healthy with not so much brown tips. Should I cut off some of these bad leaves? Should I try to propagate? Or what do I do? I don’t even know if I’ve been doing the right thing.
Hey plant friends! So i have two air plants (they are the same species just one is younger) and i just figured out how you’re actually supposed to water them which is out of their pot and submerged in water! Anyway, i digress; i just pulled them both out of their pots and found out they have no roots!!!!??? I’m super confused! They seem healthy and have grown since i picked them up from the grocery store last month. Just so odd to see a plant with no roots lol Anybody have any input on this?
Hi guys, I need help! The leaves are dropping at a really fast rate and the stems are turning black. I know this looks like a case of overwatering but the soil is bone dry. Does anybody know what could be causing this and how to make my happy beans happy again? Thanks everyone.
How important is humidity? Do any of you guys have high humidity preference plants in low humidity homes? All of my favourite cat safe plants prefer high humidity but my home doesn’t really meet this requirement! I’m not willing to fork out on a humidifier as I don’t have the money for a decent one and I worry about it causing mould in my home.. I know they probably won’t “thrive” in low humidity environments but will they stay alive at least if I meet all of their other care needs?
Just realizing I think I have a dramatic plant cause it’s only been 4 days since I last watered her and she looks like this now when yesterday I swear she looked just fine Bright side, at least I know when it’s time to water her just based on how sad she looks
Does anybody know what type of plant this is I just picked it up from the nursery because I loved how unique it is but now I can’t figure out what it is and how to care for it and also it look like it may be a little sick or eaten by a bug or something
I just bought a bunch of pots and potting soil for plants that are still in the plastic nursery containers. It’s unseasonably hot in PA today. Spent time outside repotting my plants and getting dirty. It was good for my soul. Hubby says my hobby is getting out of control and I reminded him that he golfed today.
Hi there! I’ve got a question about digging up garden plants. So this is a snowberry plant offshoot that my mom and I dug up from my grandmother’s garden - she passed recently and the house is being sold, but we are very fond of her snowberry bushes and wanted to have some. I know it’s quite late in the season to have done this (I’m in Ontario, Canada) but I’m looking for advice on how I can make it last through the winter? It’s as tall as the snowblower in the image, for reference. I’ve got some other smaller ones too.
Hey, guys! Since moving my lemon tree inside, it’s lost over half its leafs. First picture is from October 8th and the second picture is from today, October 28th. Any advice? At first I was over watering and I have cut back and am feeling the soil to determine if it needs watered. I also was originally doing a 12 hour light cycle, but have changed to 8 hour. Any advice is appreciated!! Thank you, all!
Steve at the garden centre was very keen that I rescue this Philodendron Painted Lady, so he sold it to me for £5 😂 It doesn’t even look that unhealthy, just needs a bit of a repot and trim, I think.
I went to trim up my string of hearts and saw this! I didn’t even know they bloomed!
Also need help identifying this plant as well! Thank you!
Anyone able to help me identify what this plant is? I believe it might start with a “J” as I typically name my plants after their plant name and I named her Jacquelyn when I got her a while back. Thanks for any help!
I posted a week or so ago that I was trying out plant food for the first time. My poor Inch Plant did NOT like it. The other plants didn’t seem to mind. This Inch Plant went limp and there were a lot of leaves turning brown. My current plan is to starve it until it’s fairly dry and then water it. All is not lost as there are still some good stems.
so much love🫶🏻
You guys. Hubby surprised me with a greenhouse. I cannot wait to fill it.
