Let’s talk bottom watering. What exactly is it? It allows plants to absorb water from the bottom up when your pot (with drainage holes) is placed into a water tray. Pros: * plants take what water they need, and leave the rest. Preventing overwatering/underwatering. * consistent moisture throughout the soil. You can have dry spots with top watering. * less mess (splashing). But that in theory. I tend to make messes during plant care, no matter how careful I try to be. * prevents pests. You aren’t leaving sopping wet top soil for fungus gnats to lay their eggs in. * low cost on supplies. Plastic water trays are around $1-2 at any BBS. Cons: * build-up of minerals in your soil (top watering washes them out). Prevention pointers: top water occasional. Don’t use tap water. ~~All to say, it’s personal preference. At the end of the day, crops, trees, and other plant life take water from rain, and it works for them!
So My Poor Lovely Marigolds Have Passed Away 🥺 But Not Before Momma Marigold Gave Birth To A Quite A Few New Babies & Leaves 🥹. Her Babies Weren’t Doing To Well In The Big Pot So I Put Them Back In A Nursery Pot With Fresh Drier Soil As They’re Old Pot Was Retaining To Much Water, & Had A Few Pests. I Made Sure To Clean Off Her Roots, Disinfect Her Roots & Clean Her Leaves To Make Sure All Of The Pests And Their Eggs Are Gone. I Think She Will Do Good Back In Her Nursery Pot Until She Blooms Up Again. Her Roots Are Quite Thick & Strong So I Have Hope For Her. I Didn’t Give Her Water Again Because I Didn’t Want To Overwater Her As She Was Watered Just A Few Days Ago & I Don’t Want To Shock Her Too Much. She Will Come Inside Once It Starts Getting Dark. It’s 70 & Not Very Sunny But Warm Outside Where I Live So I Don’t Feel Like She Will Need To Go Under The Grow Lamp Once It Gets Dark. But Do Any Of My Plant Friends Have Any Suggestions??
Hi friends! My sister said this plant was apparently diseased but I’m unsure if it actually is. I also don’t know the type of plant this is, and how to care for it. Thanks.
I’m like 90% sure that this is a Calathea Freddie but I have no idea honestly
Where are my money tree owners at?? Anyone think the water cycle the app has for Money Trees is WAY off?? Mine is saying water once every like 18-20 days. But like they’re already dried out after watering them a few days ago. Thoughts?
Anyone know what kind of plant this is? Got it from Target and the label said Monstera but that doesn’t seem right. Thanks in advance for the help!
so my husband just got home with these gifts 🩵. they are in the closet for now. any tips? thanks 🫶🏻
My nerve plant is wilting! I looked it up and it suggested more water so I gave it water 6 days ago and it’s still wilting. It’s by an east facing window, has a humidifier, and is surrounded by other humid loving plants. The soil is still moist. It hasn’t perked up and I’m scared if I water again it’ll cause root rot. HELP.
Got three new plants today! Snow Queen Pothos, Swiss Cheese plant and a Silver Satin Philodendron! Just had to share.
I just got a himalayamix peperomia tonight and don’t know what to expect! I have been looking at other peperomias and depending on the type, certain care steps are taken. The plant isn’t on here, so any guidance/tips are welcomed! 💚
Is there an easy way to find posts that you have created in the past?
I got this swiss cheese plant about two weeks ago and have had it under a grow light since. I changed the soil when I first got it but kept it in its nursery pot. Some of the leaves seem to be yellowing around the edges and new growth stays small and eventually turns yellow and then crispy brown. It also has some crunchy brown tips on some of the leaves. Can anyone tell me what to do in order to keep it happy?
**For starters, I am still a novice plant parent** So, I take care of an elderly woman who is unable to care for her plants, and she had this massive (and overgrown) I believe split leaf philodendron? I want to be able to clean it up for her and getting back to looking neat, and wanted some advice on what the best way to do this is! It branches off into two different directions, and she let me take a cutting of what was the third branch home with me! So, now is my next question — how should I properly propagate this guy? Should I let it callous over for a day, should I leave it in water for a bit, should I plant it? Should I cut the stem from the base of the new growth entirely? It has very long aerial roots hanging off, only one of which actually found its way into the dirt. I was going to trim the ends which seemed a bit too soft and try placing the tips in water, but I didnt want to do anything that would mess it up. Thanks in advance for any advice!
This is a Dracaena ‘Florida Beauty’ that I have at work. She recently grew a baby, I have never had a plant grow a baby before! I am delighted, look how cute her little leaves are 🥹
Hey planty friends! ☺️🪴 I’ve noticed sooo many post in the last few weeks about people who’s plants have gotten frost damage on the way home from your store. I’m sorry for everyone’s lost and damaged plants! I wanted to give a tip that might help. If you ask the cashier to give you an extra plastic bag or two, you can cover the plant and the pot and gently tie it shut. That should give you some grace time to get to the car. A plant store might have a box you could have. If you use reusable shopping bags, they work too. If you’ve been shopping for over an hour, I would buy your other things, go warm up the car, and then go back for the plant you want. If your somewhere that’s subzero—first of all, my condolences—an insulated bag that for frozen groceries or picnics can be a life saver! I think that last tip was shared earlier this week by PlantyAnn. I hope this helps at least one plant lol Good luck everyone! Happy growing 🌿
Okay guys, so all the flowers have fallen off! (They lasted for awhile) Do I cut the stems down as far as a can? Do you think the size of the plant is appropriate for the pot it’s in? Or should I repot?
Can these ZZ babies be planted directly in soil?
Anybody know what this is? it started growing in my monstera pot
i recently bought this pink dalmatian plant. I don’t know what i did to it! there’s a chance it happened when i brought it to my car in the cold. Does anyone know what happened?
