Hello! I’ve been into plants for about a year and a half now and up until now I’ve never used a fertiliser. I felt like my plants needed it this winter though bc it’s been a long one already 😂, so I brought this one from Charlie’s the other day. I didn’t know whether to go for a super expensive one or one that costed 50p, so I went somewhere in the middle. I’ve been following the dosage instructions but does anyone have any recommendations for my next one? Keeping in mind that I’m still in school so I’d rather not fork out on anything too expensive 😂. Thank you! X

My lucky bamboo plant has grown very tall and is falling over. It’s in a ceramic pot with rocks and water, and leaf tips are starting to turn yellow. Is there something I can do to get it up right again?

Can anyone tell me why my Hoya Compacta is not growing? I’ve had it for about 6-7 months and it’s only grown two small leaves. Never been repotted. Use to be in a South facing window with lots of sun, but now it’s near a West facing window in indirect sun. Just seems to not be growing at all.

I bought this because I read it’s amazing for my plants. But my question is, can I use my liquid fertilizer and this? Or does this replace my liquid fertilizers?

I got this Cast Iron Plant a few months ago, and it’s been developing some stripes on its leaves, some of them stronger than others. The variegation doesn’t look to be as strong as the variegated variety, which I only recently found out about.
I recently moved so it’s still adjusting, but I’m hoping this is just a new development? The stripes have been getting more pronounced than before.

Hi everyone, I am looking to add more plants to my place - specifically my bathroom. Unfortunately, the bathroom has no windows and is situated in a spot where no light from any nearby windows gets to. I’m wondering: what plants have worked for you in similar situations/conditions? I really want a plant in there but I keep seeing conflicting reports on what will do well in that spot. If you have any suggestions for plants and/or tips to help keep them happy in a no-window bathroom, I’d love to hear!

Any suggestions to remove a bamboo plant from a glass vase with gravel soil? I literally use gravel from my garden parth, it’s grown well over the years since I got it as a sprout from ikea. It’s got lots of roots which I don’t want to damage
Does any one have advice on how to grow the saplings I’ve harvested from the main bamboo aswell? I currently have them submerged in water in a vase placed in my shower to keep the water full
I’m new to this!
Thank you

Hello! I have this miniature rose plant that I got back in February of 2023 and I wanted to know more about it. I believe it’s a perennial but it is looking pretty bad right now. It has bloomed twice within the last year so I wanted to know if it might bloom again or if it’s too dead. I still water it about once every one or two weeks and it’s right next to a window.

Hey, so I have some African Violet liquid plant food and I was wondering if it would be ok to use it on my other house plants? (Peperomia, Monstera, Peace lily, Tradescantia, etc.)

I was gone for 9 days and my dog sitter didn’t water my 3 poinsettias and I’ve been so forlorn! lol Of course you can’t find them anywhere now. So I’ve been staring at these pitiful plants for over a week. I grabbed one this morning to throw away, finally and much to my surprise it’s leafing out!! All three are!!! Happy plant mom!

Themes: root bound plants, bottom watering, complete submersion, satisfying bubbles exiting your plant’s soil
I’m almost embarrassed to share this, but it is an “Oh duh!” to an issue I’ve experienced since Mammillaria patient 0. My drought-like approach works really well with Lithops and other specialized weirdos, but I’m always flustered with basic plants (I.e. Parodia leninghausii). I’m not the only one, as opinions on the subject are varied, and the question seems cyclical.
I started with a question a few months ago:
Why is my Ferocactus glaucescens shrinking?
Possible answer: Could be water, fertilizer, too much afternoon sun, bugs, or something with the roots. I assumed bugs because I have had Scale. Or maybe I shocked the plant when I watered it too soon after re-homing.
I have two of this species, and they both look like someone deflated them. I would water and see no improvement, so I moved them around into different lighting situations all Summer.
So. I understood “root bound” as plants whose knotted root ball keeps them from growing. Right? I’m watering these fools per the schedule etc. But I finally took notice of the word “hydrophobic” and watched some videos of bottom-watering, which I rarely do. They aren’t getting any water!
I filled up a couple buckets of distilled water and completely submerged a few newer plants with the shrinkage concerns. The soil bubbled and burped up cloudy water for ten minutes. That felt correct, so I grabbed a few more plants that also have this issue. And then about 30 more.
(I posted videos of all the bubbling plants on Instagram. So satisfying, and very much ASMR.)
Here is the epiphany: Some of the plants had such compacted dirt clods attached that they floated out of the pots. One took ten minutes of soaking before the clod held any water 💧 and eroded.
Basically, due to the bound roots, a bunch of my plants didn’t get much water this Summer. However, every one that I treated with the soak looks plump in a good way. The soil is broken up now, as well.
Pictured are a few who were impacted. I have zero concerns that I’m overwatering right now lol.

Just bought Gerald at IKEA about 4 days ago. He doesn’t seem to be doing too well. I saw that it’s best to give him a shower in the tub just until water starts to drain out and after I did that, he looked extra perky. Now not so much. How often am I supposed to water? I also need to add more potting soil to his new pot. Any tips?

Hello again! So I went and picked up a Chinese evergreen. It’s a beautiful plant, and I am SO excited about it!!
I was curious if anyone had some care tips or tricks for this bad boy? I’m fairly new and hoping to have him thrive!
Oddly, I couldn’t find the exact plant on here as my local plant store had it listed as “algaonema maria”, not sure if that makes a big difference!
