I bought this plant from the clearance section at Lowe’s. It was in a very bad shape and honestly I didn’t think it will survive. But two months later it is still holding on. I had to prune a lot of the leaves because they were either brown when I purchased or turned heavily brown shortly after. The reason I’m posting is because I wonder if it’s grow rate - no new leaves despite the heavy pruning. All of my other plants have had at least one new leaf in this period. Any I special I should be doing? I know this one is a very sensitive plant so I want to make sure I give it enough attention. First picture (with the pot) is from October; second is from December.

Honestly, it's still alive, so you're doing great. These love humidity and I find them to be somewhat heavy feeders. In my experience, they take a little while to adjust to new situations, so I'd keep truckin along and give it another month. That said, you may want to repot it-- they like an airy soil but also a lot of moisture. Mine are in an aroid mix that substitutes tree fern fiber for coco coir and it seems to work well for them. I give them k-lite fertilizer at about 1/4 strength every watering (except when treating for fungus gnats 🤣😭)

Ctenanthe, a plant often related to calathea, has a similar growth rate. When mine was adjusted to its 4” pot over the summer it was an absolute bush, so I upsized it in September and trimmed any growth that died off as it adjusted. It just now is getting new sprouts. They are quite dramatic. This is a before picture. I don’t have any of now, but imagine this but only like 6 leaves. I know she’ll regrow quick in the spring as well. don’t you worry, just keep fertilizing

Ooh that is GLORIOUS. It must've been so disappointing dealing with the adjustment phase... But you're right, when they get adjusted and start growing again, they're back in no time.

I keep seeing that plant in the store and want to buy it so bad 😂 but I think I should wait a bit more before doing that to myself haha
