Strongly considering purchasing a Cat Palm for my bedroom in the next 1-3 days (lol) and I’ve been relying on CHATGPT on what to expect. I recently purchased a snake plant from EASY plant basically because of the self-watering marketing . But the price of a Cat palm (a full grown one is 200.00!) . So I want to just get one and purchase a watering planter myself. The thing I’m nervous about is replanting on my own once I buy it. I’m sure it’ll be in a nursery planter. I read on Reddit some people said don’t repot right away some say do to check for any disease or soil rot….so I think I’m going to repot immediately (maybe a week later). Just to be sure I have everything I need how much and what brand of potting soil would you recommend…I believe the nursery pot is 9.5 and I’m planting in a 10in pot. Any other suggestions or advice would be great

If you’re nervous about starting with palms you could get a small cat palm or something similar and get some experience before going in on a $200 plant.

I’m definitely not purchasing a 200.00 plant as a starter. That’s my plan to get something smaller but I’m going to have to do everything myself to get it going. The 200.00 EASYPLANT would’ve be prepackaged and ready out the box

Any kind of palm will need high humidity to keep the fronds from getting dry and crispy.

I live in Texas it’s always humid here lol. But I did see I should purchase a small humidifier to help with that

I wouldn’t recommend easy plant. I have a large bird of paradise and a medium parlor palm and their nice and all but a lot of money could haven been saved

Exactly I’m seeing that now after I just purchased my snake plant. The only selling point is that self water planter. I could get that myself …

Please stop using AI; they're destroying rare books to train it now

I can honestly see that happening. I feel like I’m teaching AI to do my job where I work

Keep in mind this is an AI app. I’ve had plants in my home for over 50 years … and managed well enough without having an app nag me daily! It was fun having a sort of plant journal … but I think the novelty is outweighed by the fact that I’m helping feed not just my plants … but “the machine”!

what planta is doing is training a model on photos of plants to recognize species and symptoms/pests. That sort of training does not require anything language related, aside from plant names. Nobody is destroying anything to train plant recognition apps. Language and text-reading models are the ones getting trained by destroying books
