I got this Norfolk Pine at Christmas to use as a ‘live’ tree. It was all curled up like this when I got it and it was really, really dry (if you accidentally brushed up on it, all the needles would fall off). I have it beside a humidifier and partially under a grow light, and it is a little less dry but still dry and curled up. I’m tempted just to put it outside (I’m in Toronto, Canada and it is cold (-5 to -20 C) and make it an outside plant. Is it a lost cause or is there something I can do to help it be less dry?

You should water a Norfolk Island Pine when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry, aiming for moist but not soggy soil, good drainage is a necessity and never letting it sit in water to prevent root rot. Brown, crispy needles is a sign of underwatering, green needles falling off is a sign of overwatering. Also they thrive in high humidity, ideally above 50-60%

I could be wrong but I think these are green and crispy… is this even possible?

The needles always feel "crispy" to me they are evergreen so the needles are tough so I think that tricks my brain into thinking its crispy. 🤪

It’s actually not a pine or an evergreen. Despite its look and its name. Ha. It’s actually a tropical plant and it’s not cold tolerant under 50 degrees. So I’d not put outside, it’ll die.
