Today I bought a lavender trees it says to bottom water which I’ve never done to any of my plants. I’ve always heard mixed reviews. I want her to stay indoors and thrive so to bottom water or not, any advice on the subject is welcome.

Not sure with this particular plant. However I bottom water with all 30 of my plants. A few plants I have are zz, ponytail palm, pothos, cylindrical sansevera, peace lily, umbrella tree, and a a philodendron elegans. Honestly I just think it depends on what you feel like doing. I like it by because the plant only drinks what it needs.

I have lavender in my outdoor garden and I had bit of a learning curve with it. Outside it needs full sun, does great during summer droughts, and doesn’t tolerate wet feet. We have sandy soil in that bed as well. I think they recommended bottom watering so owners have less chance of overwatering. I think you should definitely stick with that plan. And it’s hard to tell from the pic but if it’s in a plastic pot and in regular potting mix you should change things up. If I were to bring my lavender indoors, I’d pot it in a terracotta pot (no glaze) and use 1/3 coco coir/potting soil, 1/3 sand and 1/3 pumice/pearlite. I’d put it in the sunniest spot I have and let the sun hit it directly if possible. Some care tips from personal experiences (aka fails): 1) avoid liquid/chemical fertilizers and instead use worm castings as top dressing (you can also add some to the soil if you repot) 2) get a pH meter to check the soil every now and again to make sure it’s on the alkaline side (low pH). If it’s high you can use lime. If you don’t have a meter and don’t want to fuss with this much, you could instead add crushed egg shells in your potting mix which is a slow release method. 3) No misting, the foliage doesn’t like to be wet.

I appreciate your feedback and knowledge so much. I’ll stick to bottom watering for sure now. No she’s in a terracotta with partial orchid mix succulent mix and potting soil.

I've had lavender in my garden for years. It gets rain. It gets sprinklers it dries out during the summer. I don't think you need to be that fussy with it. Even if you water it from the top as long as it's got good drainage and you don't water it too often you shouldn't have any problems.

Just fyi, long term lavender will not survive indoors. It won’t get the sun it needs. If you can put it on a balcony for the summer, *maybe* you can overwinter it, but not 100% indoors.
