Does anyone make their own soil from kitchen compost? I have a composter, mix that dirt with commercial indoor potting soil but it is so hard after I repot. So far some of the repots seem fine but some aren’t doing well.

I don’t make my own. But maybe you need to add perlite or orchid bark to keep it from compacting?
0 likesThank you, I have perlite. I’ll try that!
1 likeMost general indoor potting mixes are already pretty heavy IMO. I agree with JR you need to add some drainage materials into the mix. Perlite, pumice, bark are some good options.

I have a composter, but it’s outside and only used for outdoor plants. I think a little compost mixed in could add a nutrient boost, but I agree with the suggestion to amend with perlite. I’m also a big fan of orchid bark as a soil amendment. 😊
1 likeLast question (for now) I promise! Taking some indoor plants apart and there’s a small but active worm about 1.5 inches. Problem? I don’t know how worms get into indoor plants.
0 likesI’ve had this happen a bunch of times too I have no idea how they get in there! I normally just leave the worm in when I repot and hope that it helps to fertilise
0 likesOk thanks, I don’t get it!
