    It really depends on the type of plant your talking about and how much it can withstand the cold, some might even have to be taken inside

    I too am gardening from my balcony in South Dakota! This is my first year, so I don’t have any advice. We’ll be in the same boat once winter hits. Just wanted to pop in and commiserate!

      These are the outside kids! I’ve got a hollyhock (far left), some hollyhock seeds that refuse to sprout, 3 bearded irises (center), and some morning glories & moonflowers that are new-ish sprouts (interspersed- sprouted way more successfully than I thought, hoping they vine up the trellises and don’t try to strangle the others). Sorry for the garbage lighting. I’m most hopeful for the hollyhock. They seem pretty resilient for this climate.
