I thought I asked this before and yet I cannot find a post from me. The long leafed items, contained in the upside down tomato cage, are my amaryllis bulbs. Last year I left them outside till end of September (at least then maybe longer.). They did not produce any amazing trumpet flowers by the time the Christmas holidays came around. Instead I had Easter Amaryllis. Which holiday the trumpets blast is not important to me. What I’d like to know is: when do people take a perfectly healthy plant, who’s getting sun, and stick it into a dark cool basement while cackling and saying “See you in 8 weeks. If you live through the darkness.” Then with more cackling as you turn out the light. Oh and ignore the baby tiger. If Paris Hilton can have a purse dog then I can have a backpack tiger. (I’m kidding.)

it’s always a mildly traumatic experience for me when i cut my beautiful oxalis down to nothing and put it in the dark until spring 🥴

Oh no. Why? Why’d ya do it? And do you cackle when the lights go out like I do? I don’t really. If anything I leave a night light on for them and a bell in case they need anything from me. But seriously. Should I bring the larger one’s in at least? And leave the three mini bulbs out till before that first cold snap? I have one out front along the front of the house too so a total of 3 medium to large and 3 small, which came from the other 3. It’ll be their third year!

They like to “go to sleep” and she comes back bigger and badder every year. It simulates winter dormancy, I think. I don’t actually know anything about amaryllis but it looks like you’re doing it right?? They’re lovely
