Can I just mist a moss pole with a spray bottle to keep it moist or should I actually water it? I’ve seen some people do a kind of slow drip by poking a small hole in a water bottle lid to trickle water it, still trying to figure it out

Does this ever overwater the plant?
1 Likethis is where watering becomes a skill, not a schedule. the moss pole can become dry independently of the soil, so it's often necessary to be able to approximate the amount of water needed so that it doesn't flood the plant. it will take lots of trial and error. in the few times i've used moss poles, i began to water the pot itself very sparsely because the water from the pole trickled down.
1 LikeGood to know! Time to lock in on my skills! Thank you
0 LikesI just water the pole when its dry, about once every one or two weeks. Water will usually trickle into the soil and keep it moist but not soaking. Maybe philodendron silver swords are more chill and low maintenance, but it's been growing beautifully without any issues for several months now!
0 LikesI do the bottle thing. I have tried several types of bottles and watering styles to work out a way that waters the pole thoroughly but doesn't over-water the pot. I never water the pot itself these days. I poked a single hole (well, drilled a hole) through a bottle cap using a relatively small bit. The hole allows water to escape but not too quickly, so it actually waters the whole pole instead of just the surface.
