Anyone know how long until a Peony actually blooms? Shes been a bud for a couple of weeks now and I’m beginning to wonder if she possibly got froze in that state as we did hit freezing one night. Only 2 buds on this girl. She didn’t bud at all last year. Thanks for the help!

She looks like she is Ok and still growing. When mine have frozen in the past they turn black and shrivel off. The bud still has some growing to do before blooming. Enjoy your first bloom!

Any idea about your soil fertility? Your peony probably does just need a little more time, but phosphorus also plays a role in flowering. If your buds don't open or grow over the next couple weeks, maybe send some soil to an analytical lab for a basic fertility analysis. Land grant universities often have labs that will do this cheaply.

...or just throw some flowering plant fertilizer on there and see what happens! Haha.

We’ve fertilized. But probably not a bad idea to take it to my extension center for soil work up. Thanks for the input!
