As you can see, I’m in need of help lol. My curly locks orchid cactus is i’m pretty sure badly sunburned because of my forgetfulness. When I first got it I of course did research to see how much light it needed. So when it said a more shady area, I put it on a non sunny shelf. But I had to move that shelf, so I set it right in front of my window with most of my other plants while I was moving things, and never moved it back to shade. I was gone for about two months, so I didn’t know it suffered until I got back, and in the summer sun it got absolutely fried… It was growing so well a while back, and now it looks like this… I just have to know if it’s save-able or not… if anybody knows if it can be helped, please let me know! I moved it into shade, but I don’t know what else to do.

Your odds of saving it are very low, but cacti are capable of some impressive comebacks. If the roots are alive, then just regular care for a while can encourage them to make new growth. If you want to give it a chance, water it thoroughly and wait. Playing music can also help a struggling plant; they seem to like the vibrations. Continue regular care, but be careful not to overwater; it can't use water as fast if it has nothing to photosynthesize with. As for how long to wait for signs of recovery: i have no idea. My ficuses managed to send up new shoots almost two months after a burn like that (some people might give up sooner, but i am rather attached to those two)

I was going to suggest constant grow lights turning down not off at night. Thoroughly water and cut off all dead. Hopefully the roots are surviving. The one I burned in the sun took almost 3 months. I wanted to trash it so bad but then suddenly a tiny green that I was thinking was a weed at first. So much patience and keep the soil moist not soaked after the first soaking.
