I’ve noticed little fruit fly like bugs around my succulents lately. What are they and do they pose any harm for my plants? If they are harmful, how do I get rid of them? Any advice is appreciated. 💚

Fungus gnats! They’re not super harmful but the larvae can do a little bit of damage to plant roots. You can get rid of them with mosquito bits
1 j'aimeOkay. So would I just put a little bit of them on the soil?
0 J'aimeBuy mosquito bits and sticky gnat traps! You’ll need both! The gnat traps will kill the adults and the mosquito bits will kill the larvae in the soil. There will be instructions on the back of the mosquito bit bag on how to make mosquito bit “tea”
0 J'aimeBasically, soak mosquito bits in hot (not boiling) water for 30ish minutes or until it cools down. 4tbs for one gallon of water, or 1tbs for one quart. Thoroughly water your plants with this “tea” whenever you usually water them. After a few weeks you should stop seeing gnats in the sticky traps!
0 J'aimeI’d recommend watering all your plants with this, just to be safe :)
0 J'aimeOkay. After a few weeks, when I stop seeing gnats do I water them with regular water?
0 J'aimeYep! But I think continuing to water with mosquito bits every once in a while won’t hurt the plant if you want to prevent future infestations

If they’re succulents, let the soil dry out completely between waterings. Fungus gnats need moist soil to reproduce.
2 J'aimeOkay. Thank yiu
