Does anyone have any advice on propagating baby spider plants that grow from a mother plant? I usually let them grow in water while still attached the mother plant until they get a few good roots. Then I cut them loose and leave them in the water until they get some strong roots. But it seems that they always die when I transport them into a pot with soil and I’m not sure why. Any advice is appreciated!
I have a few spider plans of my own and one day have babies. I just take them off the limbs and placed them in water until they get some roots. Once they get roots placed them in some dirt and they grow on their own all of them and give them some sunlight and not direct sunlight Bendigojust fine.

Maybe instead of propping in water while they're still on the mother plant you should try dirt.

I had this same issue one time but with a prayer plant propagation. My friend told me I was probably transferring to soil too soon & that there wasn’t enough roots for it to live in the soil. Maybe that could be your case but I’m also not entirely sure.

hey! last year i went crazy with my spider propogations which ultimately got me into gardening. i had to have proprogated 15, haha. i potted them in well draining soil with perlite for aeration for all of them. some of them survived, some didn’t. the ones that got too much sunlight + not enough sunlight didn’t make it. too much sunlight gave it growth while having burnt tips, not enough sunlight made it wilt and not grow. it HAS to be in bright indirect!

Just another possibility. I can’t see the root ball, but perhaps the pot is too large, therefore too much soil. Maybe can’t dry out enough.

I’m similar as Lily. They grow well in soil. I let it get lots of thick roots like witch’s fingers before moving to moist soil with rooting hormone powder. Then, I let the first 2 inches of soil dry to let the little roots not sit wet soil too long. I fertilize with 50% diluted fertilizer every two weeks. I place it in very bright indirect light from a filtered south window or I give it direct light only in the morning (East facing). Then, bright shade in the afternoon on my patio.
Water roots are different than soil roots. If you move from water to soil they have to transition to the soil root system and this can stress the plant and either cause it to struggle during the transition or just die. Letting them grow on the mother until they have a bit of roots showing and then cut the baby off and push it into some fluffy regular well draining potting soil.

I put mine in a small fairy pot while attached. Orrrrr they do it themselves with surrounding plants lol
