I just bought this BOP from Home Depot yesterday. The soil is kind of moist but the roots are poking out. Should I go ahead and report it? This will be my first time so any suggestions on soil brands, mixtures, etc would be greatly appreciated. I need all the guidance I can get. lol! TIA

Repotted as soon as humanly possible, and make sure to get the right soil for that plant

What type of soil is good for this particular plant?

So if it’s looking healthy with no pests I wouldn’t repot it immediately. Let it acclimate to your home before you do otherwise you’ll risk shocking it from a new environment and having its roots disturbed while acclimating.

Right now it’s like 2 roots coming out the bottom. How much longer should I wait to repot?

Ok. The soil isn’t super dry but it’s not too moist either. The app says to water it. I just wanted to make sure I didn’t need to repot it today.

I’m not an expert on BOP as I’ve never had one, but I don’t believe in watering on a schedule, especially not one set by an app. There are so many factors that affect a plant that the app can’t take into account. Getting a soil probe, or even using a wooden chopstick to stick in the soil is a great way to tell when your plants need water. As for repotting, I’d leave it for a while. They like to be a little snug and it’s okay for some roots to be sticking out if aren’t sitting in water. If it’s happy, healthy and growing, it’s good in its current pot. When the growth starts to slow down, that’s the time to consider a repot.

Plants can stay rootbound for years and still live, they just don’t grow, it’s never an emergency. It’s stressed right now because it’s got a new home, new humidity, new light levels, it needs to get used to that, changing its soil on top of all that is just extra stress. Don’t water when Planta says to, CHECK if you need to water when it says to, Planta can be wrong, your plant is individual, there’s ways to customize the water schedule once you understand what it wants. For soil I would suggest getting like a miracle grow tropical mix, if you want to improve soil quality add pumice or vermiculite, they hold nutrients but help with drainage. None of it is a science, if you repot and the soil stays wet too long you’ll need more drainage, if not, you’re good!

Firstly, I completely disagree with repotting it, now! You just changed its environment and it is stressing from going to a new home. Avoid immediately repotting after a move to a new location unless the plant will die without a repot or is extensively infested. Wait 2 to 4 weeks before repotting. Some nurseries won’t cover the warranty if you repot within 30 days. Secondly, two small roots showing is not the indication to use to determine if a plant needs repotting. Take off the pot. Check if it’s root bound or the roots are excessive. Then, repot, if necessary, after waiting about a month for the plant to acclimate to its new area. Repotting causes stress. It disturbs the root system. 🍀🪴

Thank you. Someone else suggested the same. I’m new to this so I just saw the roots and wanted to confirm. I’ll wait a while.

I agree with the other comments. When I get a new plant, I wait 2-4 weeks before repotting if it needs. Also, i quarantine it from other plants to make sure that it doesn’t have any pests that may transfer to my other plants. I usually don’t repot unless there’s a whole bunch of roots hanging out the bottom or if the soil doesn’t pass the sniff test lol. When you repot, go up 1-2 inches in diameter than original pot
