What is happening to my lucky bamboo?? I’ve never seen a whole stalk start turning yellow from the bottom up. I’ve been watering it as Planta has directed.

Does the pot have good drainage? With the rocks on top I doubt much water evaporates from the soil. This looks like what happened when I overwatered my lucky bamboo. One stalk turned yellow and died and the others followed suit.

Yep, might be an overwatering issue especially following Planta’s advice lol, need to put out a PSA to not follow Planta, also looks a bit leggy like it might want some higher light but not scorching direct light

It is very very tall. When you say higher light what does that mean? I’m completely plant illiterate and this is only 1 of 2 plants I’ve ever kept alive. Also, if it’s an overwatering issue, is this stalk a goner?

Oh it’s okay, I get it lol, so higher light would mean closer to a light source (like a window, skylight, or grow light), but with bamboo they don’t want to be in direct sunlight (like sun shining directly onto the plant as if it’s getting a tan lol), they like dappled light as if in a bamboo grove in the wild. So yes, once the stalk turns yellow it’s a goner, I’d just snip it off at the base and work on saving the rest of the plant. I’d try a pot with a drainage hole, chunky soil mix (try a tropical soil mix, add some perlite and some orchid bark) and water only when the soil feels fairly dry two inches down using your finger as a gauge

You’re fine. I think you can still rescue the others. Mine was turning a tad bit yellow after 6 months, and what I did was I put it in a Glass vase instead, added new filtered water, and near the window (bright, indirect light) I think where you placed your bamboo now is okay. Just need a glass vase and remove the rocks and you should be fine. The sunlight needs to hit the roots for all water. Make sure to change the filtered water every 2 weeks.
