I just got a black bat not that long ago. Any tricks to take care of?

That’s great! Congrats!!! How many leaves does it have. These plants will not bloom until they have 3-4 mature leaves. They require a high humidity or misting them every other day. I keep the smaller black bat flower inside with a grow light about 8-10 hours a day. They like to be warm so mine are always around 75-85° inside. Also, they like to be clean so I wipe the leaves down every weekend to ensure they absorb the light and moisture better.

Amazing! I also have one of these but haven’t gotten it to bloom yet; I’d love any of your tips from your care routine for making this plant thrive!

Seconded! I got two (one black one white) this past spring, and have yet to get any blooms. Advice appreciated!

They require high humidity and misting. Are your small or how many mature leaves do you guys have one yours?

They are absolutely beautiful. We have 2 white, 2 black, and I’m searching for the green. So far all have bloomed or are in the process. I hope you’re able to find one soon.

Omg I am so excited! I have now sunk more money into bat flower plants than I have ever spent on any other kind of plant and I have two nearly dead plants. IF they recover, I don’t imagine they’ll be blooming any time soon. (FTR, I think I figured out the problem and intend to try again when the weather in my area is warmer, or maybe with seeds instead of buying established plants). Aaannnyway…please do keep sharing the progress!! I would love to see it!

What is your process? Do you have them inside or outside? I do hear that growing from seed is extremely difficult. I got mine relatively small. They each had 1 mature leaf and they won’t bloom until they have about 3-4 Mature leaves.

I live in a desert with moderate winters, so I’m growing them indoors. I purchased each of them from different Etsy sellers and they were in beautiful condition. The first one thrived for about three months and even started to sprout a fourth leaf, but winters are even more dry than summers here and I think that by the time I realized it wasn’t getting enough humidity, not that it wasn’t getting enough -water-, it was too late to save the leaves although the stem is still alive and drinking. Second one had about five leaves but they were a lot smaller and thinner and it almost immediately began to experience transplant shock within hours of unboxing it. This led to it failing to absorb water and within a few days it had stem rot—I transplanted a into dryer soil and it started to do better almost immediately, however all the leaves were already dead by then and after the first watering after transplant, it just kind of seemed to give up and it’s totally gone now….I did/do have them in a heating pad, under a grow light, with a pebble dish to help with humidity and I mist several times per week (when it had leaves still 🙃). They don’t grow naturally here and I’ve never been able to find them in any local plant stores so I feel like my options are to ship it and risk shock or try to grow them myself, maybe hydroponically, and then transfer them to a pot later so the plant to could be more acclimated to my climate from the beginning rather than having to adapt to a totally new environment when it gets here.
