Hi everyone I have a black thumb when it comes to outdoor plants. I’ve tried many times to have plants on my southwest facing balcony but they all seem to burn. Any recommendations for outdoor plants that can survive that much light and heat? Bonus if it doesn’t attract bees or any other bug.

Though maybe constructing some kind of screen sun umbrella for them could help filter the light? That could help with the sunburn problem…

i honestly think it’s that lmao. from what i’ve heard you guys get really hot and rainy summers. i would try to take plants in and set them outside at a later time. i’ve found that works for me as i live in missouri. that way they don’t get as bad exposure and you could grow almost anything. plant wise, i would suggest tropicals. the hawaiian ti, hibiscus, or canna lilies (red is less likely to attract bees). elephant ears would also do well and they can offer some protection for smaller plants. pitcher plants can also help with flies or bugs!

I just follow what the garden center tells me! If they say it can handle fun, I go with those ones. Also lots of watering in those cases too because of the sun. Honestly I’m not sure what’s on my west deck - just things like that looked pretty! I also do lavender and citronella and lemon balm to help combat bugs.

aloe vera, monstera, most alocasia, tradescantia pallida and most ficus would enjoy bright sun like that. there's also plenty of cactuses that would love outdoor sun. prickly pear, dragonfruit, barrel cactus, and peruvian apple are good
