Ok I've made a huge rookie mistake. My 74 year old mother swore to me when I started getting houseplants that I had to line the bottom with rocks. Now I have way too many to repot (yes i bought that many since late winter without doing all my research I guess). I've had fungus gnats on just one plant. I repotted and it's fine now. Can I just go with what I've done and repot if I see anything? Also I have a few growing mushrooms. Do I need to repot those?

My mom said the same to me!!! Not sure where that generation got their intel. I’ve slowly been swapping out the rocks when I repot. A few plants every few weeks. I’ve been saving the big 12inch pots for warm weather so I can lug them outside to minimize mess. Good luck!!

The mushrooms are probably flowerpot parasols. Those are very common in potted plants, and they're harmless but can be a sign of overwatering if they're showing up often. As for the drainage rocks, just watch for root issues and repot a few at a time based on who needs it most
