You should cut the roots definitely! Especially if they start circling the pot in the inside. For this I think you should cut about 1/3 of it.
0 Mi piaceNvm, Repot it instead since it is kind of a risk but I know how to properly cut roots so I don’t cause any of them to die. I kind of assumed that your plant wouldn’t die from cutting its roots.
0 Mi piacei ended up cutting them 😬 only the long circling ones, fingers crossed he’ll be okay!!
1 mi piaceI wouldn’t cut the roots I would just get a bigger pot and just make sure all roots are buried deep. The plant is so healthy I wouldn’t risk it not continually growing. If the roots are untangled they should be fine… good luck!
4 Mi piaceWouldn’t the plant get root bound? I say let them cut it.
1 mi piaceNot if it’s potted in a bigger pot only 2 diameters larger. Or I would say go up even to a 12 inch pot since you have so many roots.. in a bigger pot with a root ball like that, this plant should start growing like crazy
3 Mi piaceGo to only a 10 inch pot
4 Mi piacei feel like u shouldn't cut the roots i wouldnt risk shocking the plant too much even in super root bound plants i dont cut the roots i just plant them with more soil as lkng as the pot u have is bigger than ehat u got it in it should be fine or split it into multiple plants...
2 Mi piaceAt some point the pot will be too big if you keep upsizing to avoid cutting the roots. You decide the biggest pot you want and upsize at every repot until you max out. The alternatives are to cut off the excess roots and/or split the plant It looks like they planted too many into one pot. You can keep the fullness by cutting the roots. You may get some yellowing. The plant will recover especially since it will get better care. You can split it to make 2-3 plants. You may still get yellow from the shock and the cut roots. It will recover with better care. 🪴🍀
1 mi piaceThere’s a thing called Bonide’s rooting hormone powder. It’s good for treating shock and promoting root development, and helps cuttings. If you’re worried you might’ve cut the roots too much, or didn’t sanitize the shears you used to cut it, I’d pop it back out of the pot, spray or wipe your shears down with hydrogen peroxide if you need to make any other cuts, spray the roots you’ve already cut or any roots you cut the second time around with peroxide, and that will kill any lingering bacteria if the shears weren’t sanitized when your initially cut the roots. You can dip the ends of the recently cut roots into the rooting powder too if you’d like, or sprinkle it over the roots to help reduce the risk of any shock from the initial or second repotting process. Hope this helps.
1 mi piacei will get some of this! thanks (:
1 mi piaceNo problem! I get mine at Ace Hardware or my local houseplant nurseries. They might sell it at Lowe’s or Home Depot. And as for your question about pot size for repotting, I tend to use the rule of thumb of picking a pot no more than 1-2 inches larger in diameter to the width of the root ball. If you need to buy a new pot for it, measuring how tall the pot needs to be by measuring how “tall” the plant is from the base of the plant to the bottom of the roots after you cut it should work. Here’s what the rooting powder bottle looks like.
