Can anyone help identify this plant? Poor thing is in bad shape. Planta says it’s a monstera. I don’t believe that is correct. Other guesses from the apps on my phone are wax flower and golden pathos. Both of which I think are wrong. Any guesses?

i really think it is! the leaves look just like mine i had years ago! they need moist but not over saturated soil. Mine thrived in bright indirect light. this looks to me like the leaves are browning so prob too much sun exposure vs low humidity and low watering. this is def not a prayer plant!

Peace lily leaves are pointed and do not have the same stripes. The leaves also do not systematically fold downwards the way this plant does when exposed to the sunlight - all of the leaves will turn to face the light uniformly. The flowers are also different - peace lily flowers look like mutated leaves with a spadex that looks like corn but prayers have flowers that look like 🌸 and grow in little bundles. :) hope this helps!

I have a few peace lily plants and the leaves on this plant are MUCH smaller and waxy’er. Possible a different variety?

I have found that using Google Chrome’s Google Lens is an awesome plant identifier.

Thanks. That app is the one that indicated this was a golden pathos 🤷🏼‍♂️

Looks to be possibly a maranta. See if the leaves fold up tonight.

Definitely not a monstera given the amount of stems, as leaves grow sequentially, one at a time, emerging from the "sheath" of the last leaf on monsteras. I am gonna lean towards Maranta arundinacea (Arrowroot). See photo

I have a different arrow root plant and it’s a very easy going plant. Bright light, good humidity levels, likes to stay a lil’ moist. I’d trim off all the sad dead brown parts too. Do you know if the soil mixture is chunky or has some air circulation?

Soil is all purpose well draining in a pot with holes. Plant is positioned facing west but under some trees to give it a bit of filtered light.

I’m no soil expert but according to the interwebs: Recommended Soil Mixes (create a custom mix to mimic its native tropical conditions): The "Balanced Meal" Mix: 3 parts potting soil to 2 parts coco coir, with a dash of perlite or pumice for aeration. The Peat-Based Mix: 40-50% peat moss (for acidity and moisture), 20-30% perlite (for drainage), and 10-20% vermiculite (for moisture balance). The Organic Rich Mix: Equal parts garden soil, perlite (or coarse sand), and compost. Specialty Mix: An African violet potting mix is often well-suited due to its rich organic matter and drainage properties
