Should I move to a 6” pot? My pink princess was doing so well, growing lots of leaves, until this last month. Now lots of brown, shriveled, mushy leaves. I changed the soil in July, but should I 1) move her up one size? And/or 2) repot into a chunkier tropical mix? The roots aren’t *mushy* just very fine/delicate when I look at them. Thoughts?

I was hoping to see some comments to help you. I’m not positive. Seems I would go up a pot size. Seems too tall and leggy also.

Also you get more responses from this FB group. “Pink princess philodendron”. Planta won’t let me post link.

Was it outside during the summer?

Always been inside! I’ve had this propagation for 2+ years now. Always indoor in my bedroom.

i don’t think this has enough root to upsize successfully. I think you may be best off chopping and propping while the root system strengthens

Thanks! She’s always been tall, I know these are climbers and it’s never been a problem with the leaves until this month. So I never thought to propagate (though having less height would be nice).

Everyone, please stop telling them to pot up! The root system is too small and weak to handle a larger pot, and TBH I don’t think she’ll recover in soil. I think your best chance will be to chop and prop.

How interesting. Thanks for your input! I never thought she would be best in a bigger pot but since the rootball was *sort of* the same size as the pot, I thought maybe. The roots are so fragile though I figure they wouldn’t hold and would get too wet. Would you propagate this in soil or water? Then repot all together in one pot?

When the soil dries out too much and for too long, it can turn hydrophobic and stop absorbing water. Instead of soaking in, the water just runs through leaving the roots dry and weak. When you finally water, some of those weakened roots can die back and start to rot. Perlite has been amazing for me! The roots grow in much stronger than they do in water, so the transition to soil is way less stressful. I reuse my berry containers for my perlite props - I just trimmed my N’Joy and dipped the cuttings in rooting powder, and now I’m lightly bottom-watering every few days to keep the perlite just moist enough.

Wow those look great! So you dip the cuttings in powder, then put them on a bed of perlite and water every few days? That seems easy enough, and I have tons of perlite.

I would prop in water and then transfer to soil after 4-5 inches of new root growth

Thank you! And yes, I’ll put them in a shallow dish and bottom water. Good luck! Please update us! 😃☺️
