    Alocasias like frequent watering, which can make them vulnerable to overwatering issues. To help prevent root rot, it can help to add a drainage layer of small gravel, orchid bark, or perlite at the very bottom of their soil mix. They like a relatively tight fitting pot. Watch the tips of their leaves for signs of dehydration (tip turns dry and brown), or overwatering (tip turns brown with a yellow edge). Variegated plants can be prone to sunburn, but otherwise like a lot of light, so start with bright indirect light and adjust as needed. Alocasias are prone to shocking when moved, so don't be surprised if it throws a tantrum and wilts or sacrifices weak leaves
