Good morning. I need some advice about when to take the frost cloths (lightweight and breathable) off of my fatsia japonica, moonlit lace viburnum, gardenia and others. It’s warmed to 39 degrees F but should I keep them on longer for warmth? They were newly planted in October, zone 9 US, and it doesn’t seem like they’d be entirely established yet. Thanks in advance.

I’m in zone 9, the Texas gulf coast. The air under solid plastic can heat up fast around noon especially with no airflow under the tarp/cloth. I would check the air temperature and the air temperature under the covered plants. I would remove the covering when the temperature gets above 50°F.

I’m in zone 9B, gulf coast of Florida. I uncover my outdoor plants when the sun starts shining on them.

I’m Gulf coast Alabama so thanks for chiming in. I’m always nervous about these cold snaps. I used to not care. Now I’m fully invested.

Lol, reminds me of how I used to make fun of my mom for always making comments like, “Ooh, look at the tree!” or “I like that plant!” Now I’m the horticulturist of the family. 😅
