I found this fall army-worm moth caterpillar on my indoor parsley and chose to raise it in a container covered by punctured aluminum(photo one), does anyone know what they eat. I am currently feeding it fallen mini umbrella tree leaves.

1 LikeYour friend has found a fall armyworm caterpillar (Spodoptera y), and it’s great they're trying to care for it! Here are some tips for feeding and raising it: ### **Diet:** Fall armyworm caterpillars are generalist feeders, which means they eat a variety of plants. However, they typically prefer grasses and leafy greens. Here are some suitable food options: 1. **Leafy Greens & Herbs:** - Lettuce - Spinach - Parsley (it seems it was already found on your parsley, so that's a good option) - Basil - Mustard greens 2. **Grasses:** - Fresh blades of grass (if available) - Corn leaves, as they commonly infest cornfields - Wheat, sorghum, or other grains (if accessible) 3. **Other Garden Vegetables:** - Cabbage - Beans - Peas ### **Feeding Tips:** - Provide fresh leaves daily to keep the caterpillar well-fed and hydrated. - Remove any uneaten or wilted leaves from its container to prevent mold or bacteria growth. ### **Habitat:** - It's great that your friend has a container with punctured aluminum to allow air circulation. - Ensure the caterpillar has enough space to move around and some twigs or sticks for when it’s ready to pupate. ### **Other Considerations:** - Avoid feeding it leaves that have been treated with pesticides. - Since they're raising it indoors, maintaining a room temperature between 68-77°F (20-25°C) will keep the caterpillar comfortable. If the caterpillar starts to look like it’s ready to pupate, provide a small layer of loose soil or leaf litter in the container to allow it to burrow. By feeding the caterpillar fresh leafy greens or grasses and maintaining a clean, well-ventilated habitat, your friend can successfully raise the fall armyworm moth!
